3.1.1 According to the scale and the feature of engineering, engineering destruction
degree or the consequence of failure to normal use caused by the geotechnical engineer-
ing problem, the engineering can be divided into three grades in importance:
1 Grade I : The key engineering, and the consequence of destruction or failure
to normal use is very serious.
2 Grade II: The common engineering, and the consequence of destruction or
failure to normal use is serious.
3 Grade Ⅲ: The sub-ordinate engineering, and the consequence of destruction or
failure to normal is not serious.
3.1.2 According to the complexity, the site can be divided into three grades:
1 It is designated as Grade I site if its complexity accords with any of the follow-
ing items (complex site):
1)The area is very dangerous in respeet of anti-seismic of buildings;
2)The adverse geological action develops strongly;
3)The geologic environment has been destroyed or may be destroyed seriously:
4)The landform and the geomorphy is complex;
5) There is multi-layer underground water (groundwater or underground water)
and karst fissure water which will affeet the engineering, or the site where
hydro-geological condition is complex and shall be studied specially.
2 It is designated as Grade II site if its complexity accords with any of the fol-
lowing items (medium (moderately) complex site);
1)The site is adverse in respect of anti-seismic of buildings;
2)The adverse geological action develops moderately:
3)The geological environment has been destroyed or may be destroyed moder-
ately:
4)The landform and the geomorphy is complex relatively;
5)There is no basement below the underground water level.
3 It is designated as Grade Ⅲ site if its complexity accords with any of the fol-
lowing items (simple site):
1)The seismic fortification intensity is less than grade 6 or the site is advanta-
geous in respect of anti-seismic of buildings;
